Contain
Yourself
Spring
at Sky brings a lot of activity and excitement as our space
fills with fresh nursery stock, perennials, houseplants, annual
color… and containers of all sorts and styles. Ceramic,
plastic, metal, stone, wood, fiberglass, Featherstone, glazed,
unglazed, high fired, low fired, rustic, classical, plain,
fancy… well, you get the picture! Colors range from
standard favorites such as ivory, white, black, blue, green,
terra cotta, red, brown, to hot new colors such as lime, turquoise,
orange, purple, lavender, and yellow. There are window boxes,
hanging pots, orchid pots, urns, wooden half barrels (split
either direction)… this year’s variety is just
extraordinary!
If
almost overwhelming variety, sheer beauty, and downright quirkiness
aren’t enough to tempt you, here are some great advantages
of containing your garden:
1.
Less
stooping!
2. Less weeding!
3. You can create bold displays around a focal point, and
swap
them out if you get tired of them or the plants go out
of
bloom.
4. You can grow more with less land
5. You can hide areas that are dull or ugly.
6.
Small &/or
fragrant plants can be brought closer to your eyes
and nose.
7. Trailing plants look better with something to trail over.
8. You can grow plants in areas where the soil is less than
perfect, for instance, on top of heavy clay or under trees
without competing with roots.
9.
You
can grow tender plants & bring them indoors in cold
weather.
10. You can take plants with you when you move.
So
let yourself go wild with containers!
