Holy
Basil Batman!
Robins
right! Ocimum sanctum (Holy or Sacred Basil) is just one of
the many varieties of basil Sky Nursery carries. Among others
are African blue, Thai, cinnamon, lemon, purple leaf, sweet
green . . . over a dozen in all.
Each
has its own particular taste for an assortment of culinary
dishes.
Basil is an annual native to India & Asia. It likes warm
climates, NOT our typical Pacific Northwest weather!
Consequently, wait patiently until temperatures stay above
50º F, which means May usually, maybe June.
Give
basil lots of sun and some moisture. Pinch it occasionally
to keep a fresh supply for kitchen use, and the plant will
stay compact.
Enjoy
basil in salads, stir-fry, pasta & pesto!
