Indoor Plants Find New Ways to Climb
– (some) people rejoice
How many of you have seen – or done – the stringing of a Pothos vine up the wall and around the room? I believe it is the challenge of using the minimal amount of space with the maximum amount of living green in one indoor space that drives this practice. I once saw a plant strung up the wall of an office through slots on either of its sides into the adjoining offices. Admittedly, it did look cool, didn’t take much room, and engendered the spirit of sharing. But......
This, of course, was not the start of vertical indoor gardening. I don’t know exactly when or where it started – perhaps Babylon! I’ve seen indoor trellises, macramé and other fabric hangers, pots with hangers attached, wires inserted into islets created in the pot, baskets stacked one above the other on chains, sconces, fishing wire and string....well, you get the idea. All work (although some better than others). But what if you wanted to create a lush living wall...a work of art that grew and changed?
Sky is pleased to announce that we are carrying several of the woollypockets line of products. “Wally” is a living wall system designed to easily hang anywhere, enabling you to create a lush living or work space. One style is designed for indoor use and one for outdoors. These breathable felt pockets are made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic bottles, totally modular, and soft. The indoor system has a full moisture barrier which keeps walls and floors dry. “Wally” is designed with a felt “tongue” that goes down to the bottom of the pocket. Plants are direct planted into the pocket and the tongue is watered, rather than the plants. Sky also carries several woollypocket “Islands,” which are essentially stand-alone containers made of the same soft recycled material, if you prefer keeping your plants off the walls and on the floors. The outdoor system has a partial moisture barrier which allows excess water to run through the pocket and still keep water off the walls. Optional drip lines can be used for large installations. Stop by and see how you too can maximize your space.
