The
Explorers Garden: Rare and Unusual Perennials
By Dan Hinkley
Hinkleys book The Explorers Garden is so
highly readable it doesnt need any illustration or photographs.
Prose aside, the photography richly illustrates that we in
the Pacific Northwest are perhaps the most blessed gardeners
on the face of the earth. Filled with stories, facts, tips,
and lore, The Explorers Garden is a library must. This
is the best garden book Ive read in ages.

Reflecting
Nature: Garden Designs from Wild Landscapes
By Jerome and Seth Malitz
Reflecting Nature might well be subtitled "get
a clue! Think before you start!" Most attentive to scale,
this book, beautifully photographed and written by the father
and son team Jerome and Seth Malitz, should be the first book
you buy BEFORE planning or installing a water feature or rockery.
"Scale and environment are everything seems to
be the message here. Taking clues from nature simplifies all
parts of garden design. Less is more.
