Palms are exotic, right? Sky buys as much locally as possible, right? So how about hardy palms grown less than two miles from Sky Nursey by Hooked on Palms? Check out this Pindo Palm, which grows (slowly) to a manageable fifteen feet and bears delicious fruit when mature. Or show off to your Floridian friends by growing the dwarf form of their state tree, the palmetto. As you see from the picture, “dwarf” refers to the plant height, not the frond size! Give your yard or patio a tropical getaway feel with these hardy, graceful exotics.

At the other extreme, try going native! Native plants, being adapted to our soil and climate, are naturally easy-care. And they appeal as much to wildlife as to humans, attracting birds and pollinators to your garden. Come enjoy our best selection of native perennials and small starters of shrubs and trees ranging from the native rhododendron to tart huckleberries to Indian plum.

Time for tomatoes! Heirlooms, grape tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, beefsteak, early ripeners… up to 70 varieties to choose from. And they are joined by dozens of pepper varieties, corn, eggplants, squash — all the luscious warm-season veggies, ready to plant! Remember that the beginning of the month is too cool to plant them without protection — like a hoop house, mini greenhouse or Season Starters, also available at Sky!

Tomato technology! Whether you’re planting a bed full of tomatoes or a single patio planter, Sky has what you need to succeed! For those restricted in space, we have Tomato Barrels, the Little Tomato Greenhouse, and more. For those who want to maximize their production, we have a variety of season extenders and ripening aids, including the Season Starter Plant Protectors, red plastic mulch, red tomato greenhouse film, and Kozy Coats (like red Wall o Waters). We also carry tomato cages in everything from plain galvanized (3 sizes) and green (2 sizes) to the brilliant Blazing Gems (make your tomato garden decorative). Remember, tomatoes need protection from cool May nights, and will always ripen best in our climate with some extra help!
