Soil Mixes

Mulches & Amendments

Protect & Make Beautiful

For that finishing touch, add a protective or decorative layer of mulch to the top of your soil. Mulch can be almost anything, including compost, woodchips, beauty bark, or even gravel. The right mulch for you will depend on what you’re growing and your specific goals. A mulch layer can protect your soil from the elements, conserve water, and give your landscape a “finished” look.

Gravel, Rock & Sand

Divide Your Outdoor Space

Gravel is often useful for outdoor areas like driveways, and is a great material for larger paths through your garden or as a decorative mulch. Be sure to choose the right gravel for the right project. For example, the rounded rock of pea gravel doesn't make a great pathway material, because the pieces don't pack, and can skitter away!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

In order to figure out how many yards of material you'll need for your space, make sure you know:

  • The general shape (circle, triangle, rectangle)
  • The size (in feet) of the area
  • The depth (in inches) that you'd like to apply your material.

Then, plug the numbers into our calculator at the top of this page to get the necessary yardage.

For example, if you want to cover your veggie beds in Fertil-mulch for the winter, you might be working with six 4' x 6' rectangles that you want to cover to a depth of 4". To do this, you would need 1.8 yards!

Alternately, perhaps you are looking to create an entire new planting area in your backyard. You can see that there are loosely circular and square spaces that you want to cover over with fresh planting mix, laid 12" deep and then worked into the soil. Measure the length and width of the rectangle, then the radius of the circle. Then enter these details into the calculator! If the rectangle is about 6'x8' and the circle has a radius of about 12', you would need approximately 18.5 yards of planting mix.

As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to give us a call

At this time, Sky Nursery is unable to deliver less than 10 yards of material. We recommend speaking to a local landscaper, as they often provide this service when demand allows. Another option is to rent an open-bed truck or trailer, or borrow a truck from a friend so you can pick up the order at your own convenience. This would also save you some money on delivery fees!

If you would still prefer delivery of your order, you are welcome to split a delivery with a nearby neighbor. Please give us a call to confirm.

There are no additional fees for bulk deliveries in the following cities: Shoreline, North Seattle, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore, Brier, Mountlake Terrace, Woodway, South Edmonds (south of 164th St SW), and Southwest Lynnwood (south of 164th St SW, west of I-5.)

Your cost for a delivery in these neighborhoods will be the current posted (delivered) cost per yard of material, times your number of yards, plus tax. Please remember your ten-yard minimum!

If you live outside this area, please call or email with the exact address for delivery availability and a price quote.

We deliver Tuesday-Saturday, usually in the morning. Deliveries are generally organized the morning of, to minimize travel distance based on the orders of the day. Because of this, we cannot guarantee a specific delivery time.

If you'd like a phone call or text when your order is on the way, please let the cashier know when you schedule your delivery. If you are working with a landscape team to finish your project, we recommend scheduling your bulk delivery for the day before the team is scheduled to work.

It's best to determine the delivery location on your property at the time of payment. Be sure to consider this in advance, as 10 yards is quite a bit of material! Once you've set a location with our cashiers it's not necessary to be present for your delivery, but if you'd like to be, let the cashier know.*

*KEEP IN MIND, if you are not present when agreed upon, drivers reserve the right to deliver in requested location without you being present.

Our delivery truck requires 12 ft of lateral clearance and at least 20 ft high at the dump site to deliver material.

Our mulches are never dyed. The colors in our photo are true to the type of wood and process used to create the mulch.

Fill dirt is accepted on a limited basis. We charge $15 per yard received. Please call beforehand for authorization.
